With deep regret we inform our Confreres that at 5:30\u00a0pm on January 3, 2016,
\nthe second Sunday after Christmas Father Ireneusz Meller, MIC passed away
\nin the Provincial House in Warsaw Stegny.<\/p>\n

For 25 years the Deceased served as a chaplain of the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology in Warsaw.<\/p>\n

He was 81, a religious for 62 years, and a priest for 48. The funeral will be held at the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy Parish Church at Warsaw Stegny on January 7, 2016:
\nat 10:00am \u2013 Funeral Vespers;
\nat 10:30 am \u2013 Rosary;
\nat 11:00am \u2013 Funeral Mass, followed by the entombment of the body at the Marian cemetery in Wawrzyszew.<\/p>\n

Father Ireneusz Meller,\u00a0MIC, son of Francis and Henrietta nee Lipowska, was born on January\u00a03,\u00a01935 in the Dzierz\u0119ga village of the Duczymin Parish, in the Przasnysz District of the Diocese of P\u0142ock. He completed his elementary school in\u00a01950 in Duczymin, and finished his 8th\u00a0grade at the Nidzica High School. In\u00a01951 he was admitted to the Marian minor seminary in Warsaw\u2013Bielany, where he finished his 9th\u00a0grade in\u00a01952, and asked to be admitted to the novitiate, at the end of which he made his first profession of vows on August\u00a015,\u00a01953. He did the last two grades (10th\u00a0and\u00a011th) of high school in G\u00f3ra Kalwaria in\u00a01954-56, and went to study philosophy at the Warsaw seminary\u00a0(1956-58). He spent afterwards a year of sabbatical in Stoczek Klasztorny, where he made his perpetual profession of vows on August\u00a015,\u00a01959. After making his perpetual vows, he was sent to study at the seminary in W\u0142oc\u0142awek. In\u00a01961 his studies were interrupted for a year, and he was sent to G\u0142ucho\u0142azy. In\u00a01962 he was transferred to the religious house at Vilnius as a sacristan. From 1964\u00a0to\u00a01967 was studied at the Major Seminary in Siedlce. He was ordained to the sub-diaconate (December\u00a017,\u00a01966), to the diaconate (February\u00a018,\u00a01967), and to the priesthood (May\u00a020,\u00a01967) by Wenceslas Skomorucha, the Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Siedlce, at the cathedral in Siedlce.<\/p>\n

Father Ireneusz\u2019s first assignment after ordination was Sk\u00f3rzec, where he worked as a catechist and assistant in pastoral work. In\u00a01971 he was transferred to G\u0142ucho\u0142azy to serve as a catechist and assistant in pastoral work. In addition, in accordance with the then standing law, the local community elected him to the office of vicar of the local superior, and the Provincial Superior appointed him the house treasurer.<\/p>\n

In\u00a01978 he was transferred to Warsaw to serve as a catechist at the religious house on Wile\u0144ska Street, and in\u00a01981 he was sent from that house to the house in Jeg\u0142ownik\u2013Elbl\u0105g, where he was appointed a vicar. In\u00a01982 he was transferred to Elbl\u0105g as the parish vicar. In\u00a01983 he became the first councilor of the Elbl\u0105g house. For 23\u00a0years Fr.\u00a0Ireneusz served in various parishes as a catechist, especially of children.<\/p>\n

In\u00a01990 he was transferred to Warsaw Stegny and appointed to work as a chaplain at the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology. While serving there, Fr.\u00a0Ireneusz obtained in\u00a01994 a new location for chapel. The chapel was consecrated by the Primate of Poland, Cardinal\u00a0J. Glemp in\u00a01999.<\/p>\n

Director of the Institute petitioned the Provincial Superior for extending Fr.\u00a0Ireneusz\u2019s assignment with the Institute on account of the pastoral methods of contact and treatment of patients that the latter developed. In May\u00a0of\u00a02011 the Institute authorities petitioned again for further extension of Fr.\u00a0Ireneusz\u2019s appointment to the office of chaplain at the Institute, which he fruitfully carried out for more than 25\u00a0years in total.<\/p>\n

In the last weeks of life he struggled with an incurable disease. He died on January\u00a03,\u00a02016, on 81st\u00a0anniversary of his birthday.<\/p>\n
