Italy, Rome: Letter from the General Treasurer to the Congregation – in English

Rome, December 8, 2010

Dear Confreres:

One of the important aspects of our service is the missions. As you may remember, in his Circular Letter on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary in 2007, Father General invited all of us to make a generous response to the gift of the Beatification of our Father Founder. The concrete expression of our gratitude is the newly-started work of the missions in Asia. Several of our confreres have been carrying out dedicated work in the Philippines. We are pleased to observe that this mission has been enjoying God’s blessings. The Shrine, run by the Marians, flourishes and our ministry is appreciated by the local Archbishop, the clergy, and the faithful. The Lord has sent new vocations to our community: five candidates entered the postulancy this year. The need for financial support for the mission, and particularly for the formation program, is being felt more and more strongly.

The Superior General asked the Marian Communities to provide, throughout a three-year period, financial assistance for the missions in the form of at least 1 percent of the revenue that a Community, Parish, or Marian Institution receives or earns. Many communities have already responded open-heartedly to this request. 2010 is the third consecutive year of our commitment to this cause.

I address everyone with a fervent plea to meet the needs of our missionaries in Asia. As we know, the beginning is always difficult. Asia is a continent of many contrasts, one of which is the great material poverty. Let us help our confreres to carry out their service pro Christo et Ecclesia in the best possible manner. Funds for the missions can be either transferred through the mediation of the Province and Vicariate Treasurers or deposited directly into the General Curia bank account in Rome. Here is the Curia account in Rome:
