On June 28, during the visit to Daugavpils (Latvia), the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda awarded decorations to worthy representatives of the Polish community in Latvia.
Among the decorated were also three clergymen: Archbishop Metropolitan of Riga, Zbigniew Stankiewicz and two priests: Fr. Edward Woroniecki and our confrere, Fr. Andris Ševels, MIC, who received the Silver Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland for his outstanding contribution to the spiritual and cultural development of Poles living in Daugavpils.
For 13 years, Fr. Andris Ševels, MIC has been devotedly serving as pastor of the Heart of Jesus Parish in Daugavpils, Latvia, for some time combining this duty with the duty of superior of the local Marian community. Thanks to his efforts, Holy Mass is celebrated in Polish at the parish church four times a week. In addition, the parish regularly hosts various cultural and religious events.
