Rwanda, Kigali: The first edition of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, GATIGISIMU YA KILIZIYA GATOLIKA, was published in Kinyarwanda thanks to the efforts of the Marian Fathers

We are delighted to announce the release of the very first translation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church into the Kinyarwanda language, the result of the diligent work of Fr. Leszek Czeluśniak, MIC in collaboration with many dedicated Rwandan theologians.

This first edition, with 20,000 copies to be printed, was officially presented on Friday, September 11, 2026, by the Superior of the Rwandan Vicariate of the Marians – Fr. Joseph Mukasa Musoni, MIC, during the ordinary general assembly of the Episcopal Conference of Rwanda (CEPR).

His Eminence Antoine Cardinal Kambanda, President of the CEPR, warmly welcomed this manual, named “GATIGISIMU YA KILIZIYA GATOLIKA,” with great satisfaction and gratitude, considering it a precious fruit of the jubilee celebrating 125 years of evangelization in Rwanda.

Father Musoni on his side thanked the CEPR for the fruitful collaboration that led to this valuable pastoral and catechetical tool and reaffirmed the commitment of the Marian Fathers to support the priests and bishops of Rwanda through tailored catechism training sessions for all levels of Christian life, offered in recent years by their Marian Fathers Formation Center – Cana in Kibeho. He also highlighted the availability of catechetical materials in Kinyarwanda for all age groups: the comprehensive “GATIGISIMU YA KILIZIYA GATOLIKA” for adults, the “YOUCAT” in Kinyarwanda for young people, and the children’s catechism, which is currently in the final stages of translation.

The very first copy of “GATIGISIMU YA KILIZIYA GATOLIKA” was solemnly presented to His Eminence Antoine Cardinal Kambanda by the Superior of the Marian Fathers in Rwanda, before being distributed to all the bishops who are members of the CEPR and the secretaries present. On this occasion, the Cardinal extended his heartfelt congratulations for the initiative and officially launched the distribution of this new evangelization tool.
