Warsaw, Poland: Fr. Bogumil Gacka, MIC, was named a professor

On Oct. 9, 2012, the President of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski presented the certificates of nomination to the professorship to college professors and people working in science and arts. Among the group of nearly 60 new professors was our confrere – Fr. Bogumil Gacka.
Associated Professor Fr. Bogumil Gacka, MIC (born in 1955, in Koło) is a university teacher at UKSW in Warsaw and the head of the world’s first Department of Christian Personalism. He joined the Congregation of Marians in 1974. After making his first religious profession, he studied Theology at the Catholic University of Lublin and then he was ordained to the priesthood (1981). In 1989, he received his Doctoral degree in Theology, having defended his thesis “The personalistic ecclesiology of John H. Newman,” written at the Catholic University under the direction of Fr. Prof. Czeslaw Bartnik. Father Gacka also completed specialized studies at Boston University and Harvard University. He received the title of Associated Professor in 1996 with the publication “American Personalism.”
Father Professor, who also chairs the Association of Scientific Personalism, is the founder and editor of the periodical “Personalism” (in Polish and English). In 2010, he published a book entitled The significance of the person in the theology of Joseph Ratzinger – Benedict XVI.
