Italy, Rome: Meeting of the Committee for Constitutions and Directory
For two years a Committee has been working within the Congregation of Marian Fathers; its task is to adjust the Congregation’s laws in accordance with the recommendation of the Exhortation Vita Consecrata (No. 37). On February 25-27, 2014, members of this Committee and consultants met in Rome. This session was presided by the General Superior, Fr. Andrzej Pakula, MIC.
The Committee discussed the draft of the Constitutions’ first, essential part, which was prepared by Fr. Marian Pisarzak, MIC, Committee Chairman. Opening the meeting, he emphasized that similar work conducted by the Marians after Vatican II took several years. The important task at that time was also adjusting the Marian laws to the new Code of Canon Law (1983). The present work, undertaken after the Vatican II and based on the said Exhortation (1996), the editorial effort took two years so far. The teamwork results in a multi-faceted perception of the religious community and its mission in the modern conditions, following the inspirations that Marians draw from the mystery of the Immaculate Conception of their Patroness, the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Sunday, prior to the opening of the session, some of its participants had the opportunity to meet with Pope Francis during Angelus at St. Peter’s Square. The Holy Father encouraged all to build unity in the Church and to work jointly in the apostolic ministry, serving the Church and the world.
