Ukraine has been key in the Marians’ efforts to help re-evangelize Eastern Europe after the fall of communism, with the encouragement of Pope John Paul II. About 20 Marians in this country are involved in parish and community outreach work, helping the flood of Ukrainians eager to rediscover the treasures of the faith. The Congregation has also rebuilt and repaired many churches in the former Soviet republic, and then handed them over to local bishops.
